Case Study – Nadia Ilyas

Nadia

Nadia (forth from the left) enjoying some celebratory cake with her Richmond AID colleagues on her last day. We will miss your fantastic upbeat attitude and sense of fun Nadia!

Nadia is in her third and final year studying Business Law at St Mary’s University and is hoping to study further to qualify as a barrister. Nadia’s started her six month placement at Richmond AID after her lecturer contacted us about finding a placement for her. Since then Nadia has helped with a research project finding themes and analysing content, helping us gather profile information by contacting more than 1000 people and written a number of case studies.

Nadia is 22 and has been blind for six years. She was first diagnosed with a degenerative sight condition when she was doing her GCSE’s and by the time she was doing A Levels has lost most of her sight. Nadia said that when she was first diagnosed she was initially pessimistic and isolated herself ‘but it led to nothing.  Being positive, like I am now, will benefit me in the long run. It will enable me to reach my goals.’

When asked about her time at Richmond AID Nadia said, ‘I have thoroughly enjoyed it. Everyone has been very approachable and I have always felt part of the team. Richmond AID has given me the realisation that my disability doesn’t hold me back and act as a limitation in my life.’
