Richmond AID Covid-19 response

Since lockdown began Richmond AID has run a  helpline devoted to supporting vulnerable people affected by Covid-19

“Up until today I must admit I felt quite abandoned, but it’s so nice to know someone is looking out for us and noticing, thank you”

Quote from an elderly couple who have cancer and are self isolating.

Since lockdown began our records show that we have supported nearly 400 people of all ages, in relation to Covid-19. Many of our referrals are coming from Richmond Council’s Community Hub, and Richmond AID is acting as the central referral point for the voluntary sector. We are referring on to other organisations for support or supporting people directly ourselves. We are also continuing to deliver our other Benefits and Money Advice services.

What are we doing?

  • We have mobilised a fantastic new team of volunteers who are helping deliver food parcels, prescriptions, topping up electricity and gas prepay cards and carrying out food shops for vulnerable people in our community.
  • Staff are helping people access food vouchers and grants.
  • We have been reaching out to people we’ve worked with who may live on their own, to make sure they have the resources they need.
  • We’ve have helped people get transport to medical appointments which they would have otherwise had to cancel.
  • We are matching volunteers to people who would like some extra phone support, someone to have a conversation with on a regular basis.
  • We are offering a free web or phone based counselling service.
