Are you struggling with rising housing costs? Is a lack of accessibility making it difficult to find a home?
You’re not alone. Join the Richmond AID campaign to demand accessible and affordable housing for all!
We’re a Deaf and Disabled People’s Organisation (DDPO) ready to campaign for Disabled people’s rights.
For many years, Richmond AID has been a trusted source of information, advice and support for the disabled community, but the current crisis demands more action.
We are witnessing the cost-of-living crisis disproportionately impact Disabled individuals. Increasing homelessness, soaring housing costs and a lack of accessibility are forcing many out of their homes. This urgent issue needs immediate attention to ensure everyone has a safe, affordable and accessible place to live.
We can’t stand by any longer.
Our Call to Action
We are demanding:
- A substantial increase in social housing to reduce poverty and homelessness
- A London wide Accessible Housing Register that is mandatory to adopt and implement for both social housing and private rentals
- A ban of Section 21 “No Fault” Evictions
- An increase in affordable private rented housing
- Enforce quality standards on all temporary accommodation
We want to hear from you – your experiences, your priorities. Together, we’ll present our demands and ensure our rights are heard.

Housing in Crisis: A short guide of issues affecting Disabled Richmond residents
The London Borough of Richmond Upon Thames is facing an enormous housing crisis, and Deaf and Disabled people are some of the most affected. The cost of living is pushing many of us towards the breaking point, making finding and keeping safe, accessible and affordable housing even more difficult.
This guide aims to shed light on the housing issues our community faces. By understanding these struggles, we can better support each other and advocate for our rights collectively. Together, we can build a stronger, more inclusive community.
By understanding these challenges, we can:
- Build empathy: Recognising the difficulties others face fosters a stronger, more supportive community.
- Gain a broader perspective: Examining housing issues helps us see the bigger picture within Richmond.
- Advocate for our rights: United, we have a stronger voice to demand fair housing solutions.
This guide is a starting point. Let’s work together to ensure everyone in Richmond has access to safe, accessible and affordable housing.

Richmond AID’s Call to Action for the new Government
Disabled people have been disproportionally impacted by the Cost of Living crisis and austerity measures. We want the Government to recognise that housing is in crisis and must be a priority. Prior to the 2024 General Election we presented our ‘Call to Action’ to parliamentary candidates which you can read here.
